Professional Registration in Expressive Arts
Through the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA), you can apply to become either a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT) or Registered Expressive Arts Consultant/Educator (REACE). REAT®
Registered Expressive Arts Therapist
A Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT®) is a professional who combines multiple forms of the creative arts (drama, movement, visual arts, music, writing, etc) in counseling, psychotherapy or in other forms of interdisciplinary mental health professions to address behavioral and mental health challenges or stressors with individuals or groups. A REAT® offers a multimodal/intermodal approach or method and integrates the creative arts using more than one art form in their work with clients. These professionals received their REAT® status from the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association®, indicating they met all necessary requirements, including thorough training, education and supervised experience in expressive arts therapy to ensure that clients and individuals receiving this method and approach receive safe, beneficial and high quality treatment.
REACE®
Registered Expressive Arts Consultant/Educator
A Registered Expressive Arts Consultant/Educator (REACE®) is a professional who uses the expressive arts in a broad range of approaches in education, organizational development, health fields and more. A REACE® has demonstrated and documented their mastery in the application of integrative/multimodal expressive arts facilitation. The cornerstone of their work is the combination of a variety of modalities such as visual art, movement, dance, creative writing, voice techniques, music, and poetry in facilitation, consultation or educational work. The REACE® designation from the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association indicates that this professional has met all necessary training and experience requirements and is an expert in the field.
