About Us:
Founder/Lead Trainer: Laury Rappaport, Ph.D, ATR-BC, REAT,
and Certifying Focusing Coordinator, pioneered and developed the creation of Focusing-Oriented Art Therapy (FOAT) and Focusing-Oriented Expressive Arts Therapy (FOET)—based on 30 years of clinical work. Laury is the author of Focusing-Oriented Art Therapy: Accessing the Body's Wisdom and Creative Intelligence, published by Jessica Kingsley, 2009 and numerous articles.
Laury’s clinical work includes thirty years of experience in a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, community mental health, day treatment, private practice, and wellness centers. Specialty populations include working with clients and families with life-threatening illness and health related issues. Laury is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Family Therapist, a Board Certified Art Therapist with the American Art Therapy Association Registered Expressive Arts Therapist with the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association, and a Certifying Coordinator, Focusing-Oriented Therapist and Trainer with The Focusing Institute.
Laury currently teaches at Notre Dame de Namur University, Lesley University, and Meridian University. She has served as Associate Professor at Notre Dane de Namur University, has been on the faculty of Lesley University in Cambridge, MA for over thirty years, where she was the Academic Coordinator of their International Expressive Arts Therapies programs. Laury has also taught at Cambridge College, California Institute of Integral Studies, Wheelock College, Regis College, and SUNY at Buffalo.
FOAT/FOET Trainers
FOAT/FOET Trainers are credentialed in areas of expertise: 1). art therapy or expressive arts (art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, drama therapy, or expressive arts therapy, etc.). 2). Certification with The Focusing Institute.
Sophie Glikson, MA, LMHC, CET, FOT
Sophie is a Certified Expressive Therapist, Certified Focusing-Oriented Therapist, and Certified FOET Trainer. She has been in private practice offering expressive arts therapy to adults and children in Medford, MA since 1989. She integrates Focusing with the medicinal power of the arts in a heart-centered approach. Sophie is an Adjunct Faculty in the Expressive Therapies program in the Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences at Lesley University and has been teaching since 1994. Her passion is to provide space for creative soul-making in the service of health, integrity, and inner peace.
Peggy Langley, MA, LMHC, FOT
Peggy received a Master's Degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from Lesley University in 1984 and has a BA degree in music. She has worked with a variety of populations as a therapist and educator, including children, geriatrics, adults living with HIV/AIDS, pregnant women and other adults with substance abuse issues. Peggy studies yoga, plays the flute and guitar, has been a facilitator at the "Opening the Heart" workshops, is a Certified Focusing-Oriented Therapist, and Certified FOET Trainer. She works from a body-oriented perspective and believes in the dance of life.
